Who uses a fountain pen any more? Well a fair number of people and there is a wide range of companies producing pens. Some companies focus on the design and marketing, having the pens produced in designated factories. Other, design and create the entire pen within their own productin centres. Some companies, like Aurora, still manufacture their own nibs. Most have nibs made to their specifications at other facilities. Peter Bock AG, located in Germany, has been making nibs for over 75 years and is one of the leading manufacturer or nibs.
Bock does more than just make nibs. In some cases the specifications call for dedicate took making. OMAS was an example that had dedicated machinery for its OMAS nibs. That machinery was acquired by Scrittura Bolognese (SCRIBO) and is part of the story of that new company. I include a listing of pen companies here.
I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit a number of the pen factories. My first tour was with Waterman in France. Impressive centre. I had been drawn to Wateman pens for many years and I am pleased to own a number of Waterman pens.
Other pen companies have primarily been in Italy. Pen companies which I have visited include:
